FINISH APPEARANCE
A refinished surface has an exceptionally nice appearance, however, here are some anomalies that you may on a refinished surface, but may or may not find on a new surface:
Nibs: Nibs are tiny specs on the surface that you may or may not be able to see, but you may feel them. Unlike a car, for example, that’s sprayed in a clean room with filtered air, your fixture is sprayed in an uncontrolled environment. Nibs are sometimes a result of dust, lint or other airborne contaminants falling on the surface during or after application or cleanup. They also sometimes form as a result of the resin being sprayed. Nibs are common on tubs and surrounds. They don’t affect the general appearance or durability of the surface, and normally wear down and disappear over time from routine cleaning.
Texture: Fiberglass and acrylic surrounds are produced in a mold and are sometimes (but not always) perfectly smooth. Porcelain tubs are fired at thousands of degrees to achieve their finish. The finish I apply is sprayed. The sprayed finish is smooth and shiny and produces a reflection, however, it does contain some texture. As a result, when light reflects on the surface at certain angles, it may not always appear as mirror-like as it did on the factory surface, if that surface was perfect.
Variation: While I’ve been spraying fixtures for many years, and produce a very nice product, there’s always some variation in the finished surface. You may not be able to see it, but if you feel the surface you may detect some variation in the level of “smoothness” This is normal and occurs on every job. Like nibs, it doesn’t affect the general appearance or durability of the finish.
